Success Stories of our Shelter

Astrid, age 3 1/2, lives with her mom and dad in Charlotte, NC. She attends day camp in Pineville, NC twice a week where she is the envy of all the campers in her ruffles and colorful bandanas.

To Read all about Astrid on her own website, click here.

Astrid also sells her colorful bandanas and proceeds from the sales go to the Santa Cruz Humane Society.  To view Astrid's line of unique handmade bandanas and other fashion wear click here.

Barbara Laughlin, Astrid's mom sent us this wonderful letter to "Kick-Start" our success stories page.

The Santa Cruz Humane Society would like to thank the Laughlin's for adopting Astrid and creating a unique place in the world for her and for us.

At the December 6th Bow-Wow Bake Sale two ladies came into the room and introduced themselves as members of a Red Hat Club who wanted to make a donation to the SCHS.   The two ladies, Nancy Mathewson and Beverly Meeker presented Linda Wilson (see photo) with a donation of $238.00.   The Rio Rico JUGS (Just us Gal’s) Chapter made the donation in memory of Christine Clark a member of the club who recently passed.   The club decided to do the donation in Christine’s memory instead of exchanging Christmas gifts and to benefit the shelter’s less fortunate furry friends.    Thanks to the Rio Rico JUGS Chapter for their wonderful gesture!

The shelter continues to get incredible donations from the community and would like to thank the following folks for their generous donation:

Mrs. Janice Urman – Donated a handmade Dog Quilt.   Over 190 raffle tickets have been sold and the winning ticket will be picked on December 19th.   We will let you know who the lucky winner was in our next newsletter!

Mrs. Karol Koon – Donated an enclosed trailer for the shelter to use to pick up and store merchandise for the thrift shop.

Mr. & Mrs. Paul Trombley – Donated their RV.    Tony had it sold it no time!

Cindy Sheaffer – Donated wonderful hand sewn items.   The wheel covers for the car were a big hit and sold fast!

A wonderful lady from Rio Rico who wants to remain anonymous donated two pieces of beautiful jewelry and we are now selling raffle tickets for the jewelry.  Contact us if you are interested in purchasing tickets.    In addition to these items, thank you to everyone who continues to donate all sorts of merchandise to Big Red’s Thrift Shop.   Your donations are helping the animals!
If you have a success story for us - please send a card or letter or email and we will post it.
